Have a Great Holiday

Here we are, 16 weeks after the beginning of this school year, and 18 weeks since we met all the new teachers together in Bangkok for the first time. They have made a great contribution to both teaching and learning, and to the wider life of St Andrews, in their first term here and I hope that they, and all the other teachers, students and parents, and the whole St Andrews community, have a great holiday.

This includes students in Years 11 and 13, who should make sure that they give their brains, and their bodies, a rest over the next few weeks, as well as preparing for their upcoming Mock Exams.

This is only a short week, after yesterday’s Constitution Day holiday and with the term ending after lunch, at 1pm, on Friday, but also a very busy one, with our traditional Christmas Fair and Christmas Concerts, as well as the End of Term Assembly.

Cancer Hair Awareness Event

Two weeks ago, on Friday the 25th November, a group of Year 13 students organised a Cancer Hair Awareness event to show support and spread awareness towards cancer patients. Here is their report:

We had five brave volunteers who were willing to donate their hair to the NCI (National Cancer Institute of Thailand). Not only that, each of them put in tremendous efforts to fundraise themselves:

Aandie (13R): 36,000 baht
Kathryn (13S): 29,045 baht
Pat (11L ): 2,790 baht
Nichada (9A): 2,160 baht
Niklas (9A): 2,660 baht

All of the volunteers delivered heart-warming speeches to give a reason for their participation in this event before having their hair cut or shaved in front of the students and teachers. They showed that no matter how small our actions are, it can make a difference in someone else’s life.

Special thanks to Mr Christophe who volunteered at last minute and raised 5,520 baht! Therefore, this brings us a grand total of roughly 79,000 baht! Many thanks to our volunteers and to those who sponsored and supported our event!

We hope that next year, this amazing tradition is carried on by the students of St Andrews and that it transfers from this campus over to the new one too!

The Cancer Awareness Group:

Aandie (13R), Aditya (13J), Deborah (13R), Nikki (13J), Ishita (13R), Suhavni (13J), Mansi (13J), Ashna (13J), Akash(13S), Kavin (13J), Keith (13W), Samie (13R)

This is a great example of a student-led Service project, which took place for the first time last year and again raised both money for, and awareness of, a very important issue.

Have a great holiday! Mr. Roo.
