Sports: Here’s to a successful first term of sports

Get updates on our Flames and Marlins upcoming events and competitions… Our STA Flames Tennis Team met with great success in their FOBISIA tournament in Penang.

Primary School Sport
This week in lessons we will be continuing our fitness testing, with our KS2 children trying to complete 1000m of non stop running. So far we have had some positive results but it has also highlighted some children that need to increase the amount of exercise they’re doing inside and outside of school.

The Year 4 boys and girls had their first basketball game last week. Both teams were convincing winners and should be very proud of their progress in Term 1. Please note that all basketball squad training starts the first week back after the break.

The open badminton lessons will now change to squad badminton.  The trials for  U9 and U11 will be held after the break.

U9 Squad will be held on Tuesday lunch times from 12.40 - 1.10pm

U11 Squad will be held on Thursday lunch times from 12.40 - 1.10pm

Open badminton sessions will be held for anyone who did not make the squads and will take place on Tuesdays.  You will be able to sign up for these sessions via Moodle, once the results of the trials have been published.

Training for this term has come to an end. All the squads have worked really hard and have shown great commitment in trying to improve as individuals and as part of a team. Well done to everyone. Training will start again the first week back after the holidays.

Term 2 will see the start of a busy football season with BISAC friendlies and also the TISAC League/tournaments. Plus, on the 19 and 20 January, we have the Harrow International Cup Tournament involving our U9 Boys, U11 Boys and Girls. Just before that , on Tuesday 16 January,  we have the re-arranged final of the Harrow Cup Tournament against Shrewsbury. This match will be held at Soccer Pro.

There was a great turn out for the Primary FOBISIA trial last Friday.  The children were trialed on their athletic and tee ball ability.

If selected training will be on a Wednesday for tee ball and Friday for athletics, alongside their usual football and swimming training. Once selected the children’s parents will be sent a schedule of the training days and times.

It is not an easy process for the Primary PE team to select the children, but we will look at the strongest athletes we have across Years 4, 5 and 6. The team is made up of 10 girls and 10 boys from Year 4/5 and 10 girls and 10 boys from Year 6.

Results of selection will be emailed before Wednesday 13 December.

This past weekend our Under 13 and Under 15 STA Flames Tennis Team participated in the 2017 FOBISIA Tennis Tournament in Penang, Malaysia.  This competition was a great way for our young tennis athletes to gain a bit of international experience and get to know other tennis players from across the region.

While the entire team performed well in their matches, four players advanced into the knockout rounds of the tournament with one player, Gam from Year 10, making it to the Quarterfinals.

However, we’re especially proud of the way our Flames Tennis Team represented the character, talent, and resilience of St Andrews’ students, and we can’t wait to see how they carry forward this experience to competitions in the future.
