High School: The results are in...

It was a very busy first week in the High School of St Andrews International School Bangkok, with students, and teachers, settling in to new classrooms, timetables and facilities, and getting to know each other too. By the end of the week, students had found their way to all their classrooms, and the toilets and water fountains, and it was noticeably calmer this morning as we started Week 2.

At lunchtime on Monday, the new canteen served lunch for the first time. I would like to thank all parents for their patience in providing packed lunches last week - although it was not planned, students eating their packed lunches in shared areas and on the Atrium steps really helped us to feel like a Great St Andrews Community.

There was added excitement during lunchtime on Thursday last week, as last year’s Year 11 students, now Year 12, collected their Edexcel IGCSE results from Mr Jon, their Head of Year. As in their Cambridge IGCSE exams, the students achieved an excellent set of results, both individually and as a Year Group, achieving our best ever percentage of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades.

In the excitement of last week, I did not include any information about last year’s Year 13’s IB Diploma Programme results in last week’s Newsletter. Similar to last year’s Year 11, Year 13 achieved our best ever Diploma pass rate of 93%. Two students, Kathryn and Rae (pictured at last year’s Graduation), both achieved a fantastic score of 42 points, in the top 3% of almost 75,000 IB Diploma Programme students worldwide, and we are very proud of them, and do many other students, in last year’s Year 11 and 13, who achieved results that they can really be proud of.

I will talk more about our IGCSE and IB results, and about our new High School, in the Parents' Information Evenings that begin at 4pm Tuesday 29 August - Year 7 parents should have already received a letter from Mr Eoin (Head of Year 7) giving more details. Letters from Mr Paul (Head of Year 8) and Ms Wendy (Head of Year 9) about next week’s Parents' Information Evenings are coming soon.

I look forward to seeing many of you there.

STA Ski Trip 2018

As you will remember from the newsletter back in June, we will be running our annual ski trip again. Back in February this year, we took 20 students to Austria where they learned how to ski with professional instructors throughout the week. The experience students gained was absolutely fantastic with students becoming intermediate skiers by the end of the week. Every student progressed so much throughout the week not just with the skiing but with their independence, perseverance, listening skills, confidence, and their ability to work together as a team with a positive mindset.

After a very successful ski trip this year, we will be running another trip to Austria from Friday 23rd February to Saturday 3rd March. Your child will have received information about this and will know to come and speak to me if they would like further information. If you would like your child to attend next year's trip, please ask them to come and collect a letter from me in the Drama Studio on floor 6 of the BLUE building, or alternatively you can email me and I will send you a copy.
