Foundation Stage & Key Stage 1: Book Week round-up

It was an exciting week celebrating a love of reading which included a visiting author, lots of fun and games, the Book Character Parade and the delicious Great STA Bake-Off.

primary school book week 2018

It was an exciting week in school last week with all of the children taking part in various Book Week Activities.

A highlight of the week was the visit from David Bedford. A great storyteller, he was able to hold the interest of even the youngest children and ran writing workshops with the slightly older ones.

The week was packed with competitions and events, including the Extreme Reading photo competition, radical reading, the enjoyment of digital and musical books, and culminated in a grand Book Week parade on Friday morning. There were a number of entries in the Foundation Stage and KS1 Bake Off this year and the panel of judges had difficult decisions to make. Thanks to the PTG and Epicure for sponsoring the Bake Off prizes. The cakes were all delicious and enjoyed by classmates after the judging.

Well done to our winners:

Win - Kittens

Kibi - Reception

Pippa - Year 2

Lana - Year 2

Jinny - Year 1

An enormous thanks must go to Ms Leanne for co-ordinating the week, but an even bigger thank you to the parents and children who joined in with everything so enthusiastically - earning house points and raising money in the read-a-thon.

Songkran Celebration - 5 April

The next big event on this Term’s agenda is the Songkran Celebration, which is the celebration of the Thai New Year. Every year we celebrate Songkran in school by giving alms to the monks who visit our school to offer their blessings, taking part in a cultural assembly and playing traditional games, including the very popular water play.

Families new to Thailand will see that flowery Songkran shirts are starting to appear in the shops and markets. These shirts, or similar bright colours are the “school uniform” for Thursday 5 April - our Songkran celebration and last day of term, so please make sure your child has something suitable to wear.

Please remember

  • Small food parcels for three monks maximum - optional

  • Songkran shirt or dress

  • A change of clothes (including underwear) for after the water play

  • A small towel

  • Swimsuit - optional

  • Water shoes if you have any, or shoes you don’t mind getting wet

  • NO WATER GUNS - we will provide water pots for the children to use

Sunsafe Reminder

As we move into the hot season we have noticed that not all of the children are wearing hats.

Please make sure that you apply sunscreen as appropriate before the children leave for school and that they have hats and water bottles with them.

Parent Consultations

This term’s parent consultations will be held on Tuesday 27 March and Tuesday 3 April. This is your opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and get an insight into how well they are doing in school. If you would like to make an appointment, please use the links for each year group below. The teachers will try and accommodate time slot requests as closely as possible to your choices, but some time slots prove to be very popular and you may be offered an alternative.

Each child is allocated a 15-minute consultation. If you feel you need more time than this, which is often the case with families with children who receive some kind of specific support - EAL, Learning Support, etc.- you have the option to arrange an appointment outside of the appointed consultation days. Please contact the class teacher directly to do this. They will arrange an appointment for you before or after school on a day/time that is convenient for everyone.
