The Simon Lawrence Library is happy to welcome students who are fulfilling some of their community service requirements by helping out in the Library. There is also information about the exciting NAE Global Library as well as Banned Books Week.

Community Service in the Library

The Simon Lawrence Library is now offering an opportunity for Y10 students to get involved in several Library activities as part of their community service. The students now take part in the The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award (DofE), which aims to encourage young people to have a variety of experiences outside the classroom in order to become committed, responsible and fulfilled citizens of the world. As part of this, they can give their time to, and understand the benefits of, their service to the school community through supporting the Library. They come to the library during the break times, reshelving books and helping other students locate and check out books, and getting involved in some library projects. The Library appreciates their dedicated support and passionate commitment to helping others.

NAE: Global Library 2018/19

We are pleased to announce that this year the Simon Lawrence Library will  take part in the One World One Book activities arranged by the NAE Global Library. The Global Library team has built a Canon of Works list, with which every student at Nord Anglia will engage. The first book of One World One Book is The Breadwinner by the award-winning author, Deborah Ellis and the core focus for the 2018/2019 academic year. The Simon Lawrence Library has geared up for the launch of the activities on 24  September, displaying a total of 30 copies including the Graphic Novel adaptation. After reading it, you are highly recommended to share your book reviews with peers from across the Nord Anglia family of schools through Global Campus in Moodle. We hope to have as many students as possible participate in the activities.

Banned Books Week

After successfully participating last year, the Simon Lawrence Library will again support Banned Books Week  in order to promote books that are still being banned and challenged today in many libraries in some countries. According to ALA (American Library Association), Banned Books Week is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and spotlighting current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. Banned Books Week brings the entire reading community together in support of the freedom to seek and express ideas, even those some consider unorthodox or unpopular. Please find more detailed information for the lists of the frequently challenged books on the ALA website. Should you have any concerns, questions or opinions, please do not hesitate to contact Mr. DK at libraryhs@standrews.ac.th">libraryhs@standrews.ac.th.
