High School: Responsible Global Citizens

Responsible global citizens in the Coffee Shop and at IKEA.

Parents’ Information Evenings

mission

It was great to see so many new and returning parents at last week’s Parents’ Information Evenings. By the time you read this, we will also have had today’s Year 10 & 11 Parents Information Evening and just have Wednesday’s Year 12 & 13 Parents Information Evening remaining.

As I have said at each of the Evenings, Heads of Year will e-mail the slides, as well as some other information, to all parents shortly, and both they and your son/daughter's Tutors would be happy to answer any questions that you have.

In my introduction to each of the Parents Information Evenings I discussed the St Andrews International School Bangkok Mission Statement, and how our teaching aims to develop the students as “responsible global citizens”.

One example of how this is working was last year’s Community Action Week, organised by the SuSTAinability Group...

SuSTAinability Station

Following the positive response from last term’s Community Action Week, when the SuSTAinability Group invited various organisations to St Andrews to conduct workshops and to sell their environmentally-friendly products, the SuSTAinability Group decided to partner with Zero Waste Thailand and SuperBee Wax Wraps to sell some of their products in the Coffee Shop.

This will initially be for a trial period to observe the response from the St Andrews community, so if you want to see these products as a permanent fixture in the coffee shop, please come and this initiative. Any profits earned from the SuSTAinability Group will be given to a local charity of their choice, to be decided at a future date. In the near future, the SuSTAinability Group hopes to work with House Leaders and other groups of students and teachers, to continue to bring our community closer and ‘greener’ than ever!

Another example of a responsible global citizen in the High School is Lilly (Year 8), pictured above with Lars Svensson from IKEA Southeast Asia. #STASuccessStories is a new initiative to celebrate all the amazing things that our students, and teachers, do outside school. Look out for more #STASuccessStories in future Newsletters, and on the school’s Facebook page...
