Primary and Foundation Stage: The Community Art Club's newest installation! And much more…

Year 1 build doorways into fairy tale worlds! Year 5, learn about scientific periscopes. While Year 6 create sustainable cities for the future and Picasso’s famous Cubism Art. Finally, learn more about our newest music installation created by the Community Art Club.

Year 1 creates doorways into Fairytale Worlds!

Last week saw the Year 1 students create their own books with a door. Behind the doors were their favourite fairytale creatures used in a story of their own imagination.

The build-up to this finished book saw the students learn about adding describing words to stories and simple sentence connectives like the word ‘and’. I’m sure you’ll agree the results have been great!

Year 5 create periscopes in Science

Recently, the Year 5s had a go at making Periscopes in Science. This device is used for changing viewpoints, looking around corners, etc. Submarines use periscopes to look above the waterline.

The students were given different instructional videos and text and then set to work to make their own. Well done Year 5! They looked at how light reflects off the mirrors so they can see the images.

Year 6 - Designing cities of the future

The Year 6s spent last week thinking about the best ways to create sustainable cities to live in in the future. Firstly, they investigated and discussed the essential parts of a city like housing, shops, parks etc. Then they looked into ways of making these features eco-friendly and sustainable.  A town in Dubai that uses solar panels and recycled water was analysed in-depth for ideas and inspiration. Year 6 then put on their creativity hats and designed their own cities, thinking of their own features to make it a sustainable living space. Let’s hope that one day we can all live in a city like the ones the Year 6s have created!

In the pictures above, you can see two standout models. Cici in 6M created a 'Amazing Eco City Tour' with a video you can click here to see. Grace in 6J built an outstanding filtration system.

Also, in Year 6 the students are studying Cubism Art and had a go at creating their own portraits based on the Cubism Art often seen in the works of great artists like Picasso. I think you’ll agree we have some budding artists at STA!

Art Installation installed

The Instrumental Mobile was created by the Community Art Club run by Ms. Lisa. It is an installation that was created over 2 terms and many students worked lunch hours as well as after school to finish their instrument. It was a labour intensive piece and each instrument embodies part of the artist's personality.

The inspiration for their design is varied and evident, everything from Anime, tribal design, modern art  to glamour and mainstream luxury advertising can be seen. Whether or not the inspiration was rooted in passion or distaste, I think this leaves the viewer understanding our connection to music is unavoidable. Music has the potential to change a mood, to shift an atmosphere, and to encourage a different behavior.

Thank you again for all of your donations for the Klong Toey appeal. We have raised around 350,000 Baht so far from our community contributions. If you have not yet donated please do so as this is a really worthy cause that helps our neighbours here in the city who are going through a particularly difficult time at this moment due to the ongoing pandemic.
