Most recently we have looked at festivals celebrating light, such as Eide, Hanukah and Diwali. We learnt about the Hindu festival of Diwali and we made some beautiful rangoli patterns using coloured rice. We also made diva lamps out of salt dough and decorated them with beautiful symmetrical designs. We then created a little Diwali celebration along our corridor by lighting the diva lamps using candles. The children were very excited to see the lamps come to life!
Next we will learn about Christmas, where we celebrate family, friends and the passing of another year. Year 1 has already enjoyed writing letters to a family member that doesn’t live with them, sharing news about the past year including wobbly teeth falling out, learning a new instrument or sport, new friends made, new hobbies found and having a birthday.
