MIT-Nord Anglia STEAM Festival

On April 30th 2017 four Year 6 students, Chloe Huang, Soyoon Kim, Jai Steinmetz and Leroy Lai will set off to go to Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA to take part in the MIT-Nord Anglia STEAM Festival.

  • STEAM TRIP 2017
  • MIT STEAM Festival 2017

This festival is a week-long programme which provides unique learning opportunities specifically for our students at one of the world’s leading educational institutions.

The four students will have opportunities to collaborate with their peers from all over the world and participate in exciting workshops and activities delivered by leading MIT academics, as well as visiting the campuses of two of the best universities in the world (MIT and Harvard). The activities have been co-created by NAE and MIT to increase students’ understanding of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths), while developing their interdisciplinary and practical problem-solving skills.

The students are extremely excited about going on this trip and over the next four weeks will share with you their reasons and aspirations for going to Boston. I’m sure that they will also be great advocates for our school.

What the students think...

Jai Steinmetz

Hi! My name is Jai.  I am 11 years old and in April  I will be going on the MIT STEAM trip to Boston. I am really looking forward to going on the trip because it is one of the most STEAM celebrating universities in America. I am hoping to finish all the challenges including the genetics one.

I am quite good at thinking in different ways and believe that I will get through unscathed. At the moment I am making a video game for my MIT project.

Soyoon Kim

Hi my name is Soyoon, also known as Soysauce, and I’m in Year 6. I will be going to MIT on April 30th. I’m very excited about it because MIT is cool and I’m interested in Science and Technology, in particular Digital Art.

The activity that I am looking most forward to is going to BODABORG, which is a real life gaming challenge room. To complete a level, we need to use both our physical and problem solving skills as well as collaborating with each other. I think it will be fun as it is simple awesome!

I’m sure going to MIT will help my learning a lot.

Leroy Lai

My name is Leroy and I am really excited about going to MIT.

The thing that I am looking forward to the most is Bodaborg. It is a room escape company from Europe. It contains many different themed quests. I am also looking forward to the M M Maven music workshop. There, we will get to play DJ with industry-grade hardware. I expect to learn some basic knowledge about how to use the DJ kit.

I know that we are all going to have a great time on this trip and I’m sure it will help us to develop skills for the future.

Chloe Huang

Hello everyone! My name is Chloe Huang and I’m part of the MIT team, from BSB Sanlitun, this year.
Being a piano player I am extremely excited about the MMMaven DJ room. As I am studying classical music I feel really intrigued about putting my musical knowledge into everyday DJ remixes.
Also I cannot wait to go on the trip to Harvard University. Although I would like to finish my education in England, I’ve always admired the students of Ivy League. I just love reading and would like to explore the library there.
However the one activity that I am most looking forward to is BOGABOARD. I enjoy both mental and physical tests and act well under pressure. Therefore in BOGABOARD I will be able to demonstrate my strengths as it is an escape room.
As you can possibly tell I’m really looking forward to this trip!
