Nursery Eco Warriers

This week the children in Nursery have been finishing off their topic of 'Bears.'  The children have all really enjoyed this theme and all the wonderful learning opportunities that have come with it. This week we focused on a special book called 'Whatever Next!'   In the story Baby Bear wants to go to the moon and so searches around the house until he finds a rocket (a cardboard box), a space-helmet (a colander) and space-boots (his wellies). All set, he blasts off out of the chimney and into the night. Joined by an owl, Baby Bear soars high into the night sky until finally they reach the moon. Of course, when he returns to earth for his bath, his mother doesn't believe where he has been. The highlight of the week for the children was making their own class rockets form recycled cardboard boxes and 'flying' to the moon in them.

The children also celebrated UNICEF world children’s day with a special Eco Day challenge on Wednesday. All the children came to school dressed in blue and took part in an electricity challenge to see where we could possibly save electricity around the school. They also had a special snack challenge to finish all their fruit on their plates and snack time. There was also a special water challenge on the playground where the children had to carry water in jugs and walk for a long time trying hard not to spill any, in an effort to save water.
