EAL is all about acquiring English as an additional language from all sources including songs, books and movies. It’s clear that most of our children have been doing EAL all summer as everyone’s come back with renewed confidence and an enlarged vocabulary bank when using the language this year!

The EAL students have had a great start to the school year. They’ve been engaged in lots of fun and creative activities related to topics such as school, treasure islands, Science and parts of your face.

New and returning students have now met our characters ‘Thunder, Flash, Misty and Whisper, ‘Ben and Lucy’ or ‘Phoebe, Alex and Patrick’ who will be guiding them through adventures as the children learn the language.

The children have been working together collaboratively to strengthen their speaking and listening skills and have picked up some amazing vocabulary whilst using online activities, songs, interactive apps and games. The students have been listening to our new Explorers roam around the world; roleplayed different parts of the stories and used expression to differentiate how a text is written; and written extensions to the ends of the stories to personalise and make it more interesting and meaningful to them. They continue to demonstrate how amazing their minds are by pushing the boundaries of creativity and find connections amongst the many subjects to aid them in their learning journey.

They’re thoroughly enjoying the creative methods being employed to make learning enjoyable which has given them more opportunities to learn in their own styles, be it kinaesthetic, audio or visual. Well done on the fantastic balancing act EAL students!

We look forward to another greater year of enjoying learning.
