Children in Year 2 are identifying points on a compass. With this information they are starting to work with maps. Using these maps the children will be identifying ‘keys’ on their maps. They are learning to identify where they are on a map and what direction they are facing.
Key Stage 1 children can use this unit as a starting point for future orienteering activities. The Scouts are an organization that greatly value orienteering as an activity. Orienteering is a lifetime fitness sport that challenges the mind. Orienteering offers many benefits, but its real attraction is that it is fun!
