Before becoming a teacher, I studied a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and achieved a first class. It was my interest in Educational Psychology, and my family career background that motivated me to become a teacher. I completed a PGCE at the University of Cumbria. I then undertook my first year in teaching as a Year 3 class teacher.
The following two years I worked as a supply teacher, this enabled me to gain experience of teaching children from Nursery age, up to Year 6, I had to adapt quickly and become flexible in my approach as I often taught across Key Stages in the same day. I also developed invaluable knowledge about assessment, school contexts and adaptive teaching. The long term supply opportunities reminded me of my love of watching a class develop throughout the year; I was motivated to take on the new challenge of becoming a teacher in China.
I was excited to begin the next chapter of my career at The British School of Beijing, Sanlitun in 2017.
I have always had a massive sense of adventure and an interest in different cultures, this has had an effect on both my career choices and my personal life. In addition to travel I also enjoy exercise. I like going to the gym, playing squash and circuit training. When I have the time, I also enjoy rock climbing. Additionally I love to read, I have a personal, growing library of over 100 books; I can spend hours at a time absorbed in an exciting novel.
I am looking forward to my fourth year at BSB Sanlitun.
