Today I have the pleasure of writing my first entry for the BISC-LP weekly blog and it is a great way for me to be able to introduce myself to you all. My first few weeks at BISC-LP have been a whirlwind of meeting members of a warm and welcoming staff, pupil and parent community, becoming immersed in a new city and settling into my exciting new role. Thank you to everyone for making me feel very much part of everything! As Assistant Head for Academics, I will be keenly focused on how we make learning and teaching the very best it can be. It is such a privilege to see all of the learning that is taking place in school – from the enthusiastic explanations of the Friendly Foxes when sharing their Chatter Boxes in Nursery, to the wide-eyed awe of every pupil in Year 6 holding, dissecting and pondering over a sheep’s brain. I am passionate about making learning fun, relevant and inspiring for all and know that here at BISC-LP this is happening and developing every day.
I arrived in Chicago just over 4 weeks ago after living in London, where I taught in a large primary school for the past ten years, making the most of the city and exploring the world during my holidays. I am an avid traveler, having visited 6 out of the 7 continents – just Antarctica to go, so when the Chicago winter gets too much it might be time to book a trip there! This knowledge of the world and wide range of experiences has made me a more reflective and considerate person and living out of a backpack for 6 months at a time certainly taught me resilience and resourcefulness! These are attributes which I think are essential to develop in our children here at school.
Chicago is a vibrant and beautiful place; it is somewhere where I can indulge my love of live music, long strolls where you purposefully get lost, and food – lots of food! I consider myself to be a warm, thoughtful person who is approachable and kind so please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions. I very much look forward to working with you all and here’s to a great year at BISC-LP!
