I am from Glasgow, and this is where I earned my B.Ed in Primary teaching. I then went on to teach in the primary sector in Scotland before moving to Dubai to continue my career as part of the founding team at Nord Anglia Education, Dubai. During my time there, I worked as a class teacher. I also earned an MSc in Psychology from Manchester Metropolitan University and became Leader of Personalized learning for the primary sector. Following my time in Dubai, I spent a year back in Scotland focusing on the development of social, emotional, and behavioral needs that impacted the academic progress of the diverse range of pupils within my care.
I am now thrilled to be joining the team at British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park. I look forward to joining a vibrant international community of learners and educators. Although I have never been to Chicago, I have spent a fair amount of time in the United States. I am very excited to discover what the city has to offer!
Learning should be personalized to each student’s interests and learning style, as this is how children learn best. When children are focused on their own interests, learning is tailored to suit their needs and abilities. This also allows for teachers to challenge children individually and for children to challenge themselves. With a focus on the children's individual learning journeys, I aim to provide a learning environment that fosters a sense of security and equips children with the tools and opportunities to develop a sense of self belief and break down any barriers to learning.
