At BISC-SL, I teach IGCSE English and IB Literature. I am also the English Department’s AP English Literature and Composition teacher for the Advanced Honors students, and I teach IB Film as a second subject. In addition to my teaching duties, I serve as the school’s Extended Essay Co-Ordinator and support each Year 12 and Year 13 student on a one-to-one basis. In this position, I enjoy leading a team of staff supervisors in their delivery of the IB core curriculum. Additionally, I also coach our High School Debate Team, train the Model United Nations delegation, and run ‘The Writing Society’, our school’s literary discussion club.
In terms of my academic background, I am well-versed. For example, I have a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Lancaster University, with a minor in Film Studies and Creative Writing and I was lucky enough to spend a full academic year in the United States as an exchange student at Michigan State University in 2008. I also hold a master’s degree in English Literature and American Studies from the University of Manchester and a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education degree in Secondary English teaching from Edge Hill University. More recently, I also gained my TEFL certification, which qualifies me to teach English as a Foreign Language to EAL students.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading and writing, as well as weightlifting (an interesting combination!) and I also have a deep interest in Western philosophy, literary theory, and Anglo-American history. I am also a born traveler, so you will most likely find me backpacking during summer vacations in remote locations like Thailand, Cambodia, or Vietnam, where I like to explore ancient temples and discover UNESCO World Heritage sites!
