Nanjing Scouts Valley Walk

Stinky has a distinctively smelly nest and, on the walk, we did catch a brief pungent aroma in the air (hopefully not one of the Scouts) .

Stinky likes to eat beetles and birds so when we came across small bird feathers and what appeared to be shed snake skin, we really hoped a sighting would occur. Unfortunately, Stinky the rat snake is super shy and evaded us this time.

Instead, we finished off scaling the climbing wall and whizzing down the orange slide built into the valley.

King rat snakes can grow up to 240cm long, king rat snakes are harmless constrictors; incidentally they’re also a delicacy. The king rat snakes are spotted from time to time in the valley that backs onto Cuiping hill.

Not to be alarmed, spotting one in our beautiful valley area is the highlight of the year! We are very fortunate to have this amazing setting at the foot of the Cuiping mountain.

1st Nanjing Scouts created this song as they climbed in the valley up Cuiping hill:

We’re going on a snake hunt
we’re going to catch a big one
we’re not scared!

Oh no! a hornets nest,

we can’t go under it,
we can’t go around it,
we’ll have to tiptoe past it

tip toe, tip toe

we’re going on a snake hunt
we’re going to catch a big one
we’re not scared! We're Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
