Message from Primary

In Primary school we include two enrichment activities every week for all children. All classes are also expected to go on a trip at least once a term to enhance the learning of a topic.

At the start of the year we held an enrichment fair for KS1 and KS2. The enrichment choices were all displayed with posters highlighting the activities and what they would be learning and doing in the enrichment clubs. There was so much choice that it was difficult to narrow it down to 6 favourites!

Some of the highlights for this term include Art, cooking, STEAM and Pet Care. We have 2 school rabbits – Ginger and Bicuit – and some fish. The children learn how to care for them, clean them and what to feed them. At the end of term children will have the chance to bring in their own pets. We already have a kitten and a dog booked in for a visit to the Pet Care Club!

Trips are also in full swing this month, with all classes going on a day trip somewhere in Nanjing. The Year Four students made a half-day visit to Fangshan Scenic Spot, Fangshan Mountain as part of their new topic, ‘Misty Mountain Sierra.’ The students were geologists for the day and studied an extinct volcano. They also took the opportunity to visit some of the sites at Fangshan including tea gardens, Dinglin Temple leaning tower and finally, after a long walk, took in the views at the top of Fangshan.

Y5 visited Baijahu 1912 recreation area to look at and take a ride on the Ferris Wheel as they begin their new Topic ‘Scream Machine’ They enjoyed looking at how the Ferris wheel worked and even managed to squeeze in an ice cream.

Year 1 visited the Nanjng Museum to look at the dinosaur fossils. They have been studying dinosaurs in their Dinosaur Planet topic and were amazed at being able to see real live fossils of these creatures that lived millions of years ago.

As the end of term grows closer there is still a lot happening in Primary school. We have Global Games, Book Week, Autumn Fair BBQ and Academic Olympiad to name just a few. It will be a busy but fun few weeks and I look forward to sharing some of these events with you in next month’s Newsletter.
