Cambodia Trip Year 8-11 Updates - 30 October 2019

These days have been a cultural treat! We began with long waited and plan lesson. The students came away from the experience richer for it. Connections were made across cultures sometimes in a powerful way.

Students delivered their lessons today and they did a great job at thinking on the spot and adjusting their lessons to suit the students' needs.

It was interesting too to hear students express empathy for teachers! The blessing by the monks and the passing out of school books rounded off our experience at the school. The students came away feeling proud of their achievements.

Several students worked on a special art mural over the past two and a half days. Estelle,  Carina,  Angela,  Sofia,  Emily,  Tina and Regina.  The mural depicts to two hands of friendship forming a bridge across which there is a community and cultural exchange.  It was wonderful to the students embrace the challenge and produce such a fine outcome.   We are very proud of them!

This morning the students have been hard at work on various tasks. Now that the painting is finished we have started some new tasks; one group of students have been sawing wood, making joints and hammering the pieces together to make the structure for new recycling bins. Another group of students have been digging up some land ready to mix concrete in the afternoon and install some flagpoles.

In the afternoon students donned on aprons and chefs hats to  create some fantastic Khmer cuisine: starters - mango salad, fresh and fried spring rolls, banana blossom salad; main - amok (fish curry), lol lak (beef curry) and Khmer chicken curry; dessert - mango sticky rice, fried banana with passion fruit sauce- divine!!
