Message from Primary

This month in Primary students have been getting to grips with their Interactive Learning Projects.

Year 1 have been hunting dinosaurs in the valley and writing stories imagining what would happen if dinosaurs came back and visited BSN. Year 2 have been learning all about Pirates such as Blackbeard and writing biographies about some famous pirates from history. In Year 3 Heroes and Villains have been inspiring our students to use kindle to research their favourite hero and also imagine themselves as Superheroes and what their super power would be. Year 4 have gone back in time to the Roman era, making swords and shields, learning about the life of a gladiator and going to battle with the Celts. They even made Roman bread, which - according to all feedback – was delicious. Finally, Year 5 have been ‘Beast Creators’ learning about different insects and their habitats. They have designed and made bug hotels and looked at selective breeding and how it is used in farming. They then imagined how they would use this to create a ‘Super-Ladybug’ to rid the world of aphids. Their Frankenbugs are NOT to be messed with!

STEAM projects are underway across the year groups with classes beginning their projects for this term. The STEAM room is developing into the place to be this year and the conversations and ideas flowing from the children after STEAM sessions are fascinating, there are some incredible imaginations at work. Later in the year children from Years 4 and 5 will have the opportunity to take part in the Nord Anglia Regional China STEAM Festival, being held in Beijing for Y4 and Hong Kong for Y5, more details will be sent out later this term.

Finally, as Golden Week approaches, it is a good time to start looking forward to this years Book Week and International Day and thinking about the book characters and countries to showcase this year. There is always so much thought and care put into these events by students and parents and it is always a pleasure to see the students come dressed as their favourite book character or representing their home country.

The Weekly Words Hunt is a regular library activity for our Junior Readers.

Miss Celine, our librarian inspired by the Primary School's topics will pick every Monday a different word and ask students to search and find the special words. Students can enjoy reading and search for the special word during library lessons or break times. Every week, the first 3 students who find the specific word from any of our junior library books can get 5 house points.

The purpose of this weekly library activity is to encourage our juniors to read more and to explore books in various topics. Over the past two months of this school year, we have proudly announced many young BSN readers as Weekly Words Hunt winners.
