Enrichment Clubs in Primary

Art and Crafts

This term, the children in Arts and Crafts club have had lots of fun developing their drawing skills. They have been learning about different lines and shading and how to use these for desired effect, they drew some fantastic pictures of their own faces! They have also enjoyed getting very creative by making animal pictures using leaves, creating images in the styles of particular artists and experimenting with colours using oil pastels. It is brilliant to see them utilise and develop their artistic skills!

Clay

This term in Clay Club we have been learning a range of techniques for how to shape and model clay to make some amazing creations! We used polymer clay to make some adorable and colourful creatures by joining together simple 3D shapes. We then made beautiful Christmas decorations from single pieces of air-drying clay which we then decorated and glazed using a PVA solution.

Book Club (Key Stage 1)

The Magic Book Club have been reading stories about animals. The club members enjoy spending time reading books independently before sharing some of their favourite books with the other club members. The children have also enjoyed listening to the teacher read. This week 'Doing the Animal Bob' was a hit with all the children having a go at dancing like a duck, snake and horse!

Book Club (Key Stage 2)

We have had an exciting term in Book Club. We started off the term by making some monster bookmarks and sharing our favourite books. We have wandered through the realms of myths and legends by listening to stories about creatures including the story of Argus and the Firebird before creating our own magical creatures. We even designed our own book cover and took part in a Harry Potter-themed day. For Harry Potter day, we got special invitations to Hogwarts, dressed up in our witch and wizard uniforms, got sorted into houses and took part in potions class. We have had a truly magical time!

Board Games

In Board Games club, students learned how to play Snakes and Ladders. They even made their own Snakes and Ladders games for each other to play. We also learned Aeroplane Chess, “I can Spy the word”, catching and counting games, Lego games and building blocks. Everybody has been having great fun in this club!

Chess

We’ve all been having a wonderful time in Chess Club this term as the children have been exploring this classic game of strategy.  The students have learned valuable defensive strategies: including how to castle and how to escape situations where their King is in check.  The children have also developed their skills when on the offense and have looked at ways that they can win the game with checkmate.  Most importantly, the students that have taken part in Chess Club have learned how to always be positive, fun opponents to play against by focusing on fair play.

Computer

We have been learning to code in Computer club using the program Scratch. The children have worked independently and in small groups to make simple animations, games and even a music player, all through piecing together sets of instructions using this amazing piece of software. The children have amazed us with their creativity, adding their own personalised sprites and code to make each creation truly unique!

Science

We have completed lots of exciting experiments this term. We have looked at many concepts and carried out some brilliant experiments. When looking at the pH scale, we created invisible ink with lemon juice. We examined the densities of various liquids by performing a fair test and even made our own lava lamps!

Chinese Dance

This term we have learnt a Chinese traditional dance called “放灯行”. We enjoyed studying the the dance performance and copying some basic finger shapes and body movements. The dance seems like beautiful story and we read the “story” together and danced to it. Stretching helps to relax our bodies and dancing makes us all feel happy.  We have all really enjoyed dancing this term!

Cubs and Beavers

The 1st Nanjing Scouts joined their wider scouting family from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Scotland and England to earn their special ROTI 2.5 badges this term. They participated in games, stories and physical challenges, including completing an obstacle course, and finished by singing a famous Scouts’ song “Ging Gang Goolie” around a virtual campfire. We are all really proud of their achievements.

Cooking

The children in the cooking enrichment have been working together to make simple recipes safely, following instructions and keeping to clear hygiene rules. They have made sugar coated fruit, cookies, cupcakes, egg tarts and pizzas. The children have been practicing their cutting and mixing skills and have been using their maths knowledge to work out how much of each ingredient we need to make our final delicious snacks!

Gardening

What an amazing start we have had in our drama enrichment this term!

The children have enjoyed being part of several projects, which they have thrown themselves passionately into, and are quickly refining their drama capabilities. The students have enjoyed devising drama to perform to their peers and have recently started to explore the ideas of immersive theatre. In the coming weeks, the children will be tasked with performing somewhere in school which is not a typical performance space and will involve the audience in some way in their scenes.

Sports

We have been having a blast in Sports Enrichment playing lots of football and some Tee-ball. In football the students have been developing their dribbling and passing skills with fun drills and games. There have been some excellent tackles, super passes, tricky saves and amazing goals. In Tee-ball the students have been working on their throwing and catching skills. In both sports, the students have been learning to work and support each other as a team and how to be a good sportsperson.
