Shyun has only been with us for two years but in that time he has had a significant impact on our school. He has worked diligently throughout and has become a student who has reached a very high academic standard across all of his subjects in a short space of time.
When Shyun arrived for his first assessment at BSN, we remember a well-mannered young man who demonstrated considerable potential in Mathematics and Physics, but he was also a student who we knew would have to work hard to reach the level of academic English necessary to go to a university in the UK or Hong Kong. This is because Shyun had come directly to us from Korea and had never been in an international school environment before.
Today Shyun is a highly confident, very mature, extremely competent and very independent young man. He has studied Maths, Further Mathematics and Physics at A level and this last year he studied AS Chemistry as an additional subject. On top of this Shyun chose to study the sustainability of wind power as the subject of his extended project. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19 and our campus closure, Shyun has kept himself motivated to keep learning by actively participating in our virtual school lessons and he has completed an incredible amount of additional study at home. He has been offered places to study engineering at some of the UK’s very best universities, including University of Manchester in addition to the University of Hong Kong, where he expects to start in September.
Shyun’s achievements in such a short space of time really are an inspiration and we hope students in lower year groups will follow in his footsteps to work determinedly to be the best that they can be.
We send Shyun to Hong Kong with our very best wishes. We hope that he will take with him treasured memories from BSN and of course we hope he never loses his passion for learning.
