You will often hear Principals and School Leaders say their role includes so many jobs – occasional cleaner, counselor, travel agent, journalist and writer, artist, interior designer, after-dinner speaker, nurse, computer technician, bank manager and photographer to name a few! This year, however, I am fortunate to add two roles to this list – Head of Senior School and Humanities Teacher.
Both of these ‘new’ roles have given me fresh insight (as well as renewed energy) and I have been really impressed with the work our students do. In particular, the two IGCSE classes with Year 10 History and Year 11 Geography, have allowed me to work with small groups and see how personalised the education we offer can be. We have always had an enviable record with IGCSE and A-level exams, as seen in this year’s truly outstanding results, but up close and personal with our students has shown me how willing they are to work, how keen they are to know more and how independent they are about finding out.
As Head of Senior, I have been equally impressed with the work of our teachers, who are helping to create an atmosphere of learning, where hard work is rewarded and effort recognised. You can read about some of the wonderful work being done in school in English, Maths, Spanish and Technology, some of the great work my own classes have been doing in History and Geography, and in our Global Campus lessons, by clicking the links.
Wishing you all a happy October holiday!
