News from EYFS

We have all had a great start to our new school year with the children settling into their class and school routines. We would like to thank all our families for working alongside our Early Years staff and helping the students to settle in the morning by reassuring the children.

In Nursery A the students have been getting to know their school and their classroom. They have been learning class routines, expectations and class rules. They are beginning to build relationships with their teachers and peers in their class. They are building friendships and discovering what they can do together.

Nursery B students have had a wonderful start to our school year. Some of the highlights have been discovering the different learning areas in their classroom. The children received certificates for being independent at school and settling in well. They learnt about their personal hygiene. The children learnt the importance of washing their hands and wiping themselves properly after using the toilet. The children made name paintings to help them to remember their names and made pizza with play dough. They have been learning about their family. For this topic the children created their family structures using different pictures and drew their family members using photographs sent to school by their parents.

Reception A have been settling into class and learning about friendships, people who help us and classroom rules. They have already learnt so much in such a short time. They have learnt phonics sounds m,a,s,t,p,n,I,g, learnt how to use these sounds to read words, read and discussed some lovely books, talked about ourselves and their friends.

The children have been learning to count to 20 and add simple groups of objects together. In addition to their practical maths work they have started to learn all about number bonds to 10 using songs and games. So much learning in so many fun ways, working together as a team and building friendships within the class.

In Reception B the children have been settling into their school and classroom routines smoothly. In class the children are learning to carry out daily routines independently.

They have started their first unit “Can we be friends?” In this unit the children begin to learn and understand the dynamics of friendship. In school they have been utilizing the school’s outdoor spaces. The children have also been going to the valley and using our amazing Early Years playground to continue with their learning.
