Reading is amazing for so many reasons from helping us academically to transporting us to other worlds. Book Week gave us the opportunity to really celebrate books. Year 3B loved reading Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl as their class book.
One of the wonderful aspects of Roald Dahl’s books are his memorable characters. We explored his descriptions of the three nasty farmers, Boggis, Bunce and Bean discussing what made them interesting. Roald Dahl also reveals his characters personalities through their speech, so we practised identifying speech from different sections, by looking for speech punctuation. We then applied our understanding of the characters in different role plays, thinking about how each character would act and speak. There were plenty of giggles as the students tried to act as Boggis (the enormously fat chicken farmer) and Bunce (the pot-bellied dwarf).
