Message from Primary

What a term it has been in Primary school with STEAM week, Chinese New Year, Book Week, and our fabulous Key Stage 2 performance of Rock Bottom being just a few of the incredible events that our staff and children have enjoyed putting together.

We have greatly missed being able to invite our parents and friends in to our school to share these experiences with you and are always on the lookout for new ways to show the amazing activities that your children participate in on a daily basis. Our teachers really enjoy sharing special moments with you on our TChat app and sharing our exciting news with you through emails, phone calls and this very newsletter.

Home Learning

We have changed the format of our home learning (homework) in order to give you a richer experience of  the learning taking place in the classroom. We understand that many parents want to support their child with their home learning, but that familiar ideas may be taught in different ways through the British Curriculum. In response to this, our home learning tasks now not only explain the main concepts that your child has learnt in that week, but the specific strategies that they have been taught during those lessons. This means that you can encourage your child to teach you what they have learnt that week!

Bronze, Silver and Gold stickers

Our children still receive house points for their excellent work in class and marbles for working together as a team, but they now work towards Bronze, Silver or Gold awards every day through showing excellent attitudes for learning. Whether it is showing their best listening or supporting their friend with a challenging maths problem, children can move up the “Zone Board” and be rewarded at the end of the day with one of our special stickers!

“Be Ambitious” Awards

A select few Primary children can receive an extra-special award each month for being academically, personally and socially ambitious. These children have “gone the extra mile” to excel themselves both inside and outside of the school and receive a special “Be Ambitious” certificate in our celebration assemblies each month.

Here are our “Be Ambitious” award winners for this month:

Academically Ambitious

Sunny - Year 1

Sunny is Academically Ambitious award winner this month because she never gives up. Her high intelligence and determination shine through in all her achievements.

Ellie- Year 3

Ellie has won Academically Ambitious award because has shown great determination and has worked really hard on her Reading and Maths this term. She always strives to do her best and it is great to see her answering questions during whole-class learning.

Personally Ambitious

Ideal - Year 5

Ideal has won Personally Ambitious award because he was the only Year 5 child to try the hardest swimming stroke, the butterfly, in the Virtual Swim Meet at the start of March. He performed extremely well and showed that he isn't afraid to take risks and push himself. Excellent work, Ideal!

Eunseo- Year 4

Eunseo has won Personally Ambitious award because she pushes herself to try her very best in every in every aspect of school life. She is supportive and kind to her peers and is happy to welcome others into her friendship groups and talk to others when they are alone. Eunseo's ability to work with others in class is impressive and she takes the lead in creating good discussion during group work. Throughout her time in 4A she has shown an attitude that is consistently positive and is willing to take herself out of her comfort zone to personally achieve her goals.

Socially Ambitious

Mia-Year 2

Mia has received Socially Ambitious award as she worked very hard helping Mrs Shephard to put together the Hopeful Hearts Gift Bags for the 1st Nanjing Scouts Fundraiser. The total amount raised was 4,828 RMB. Mia was also very kind and decided to donate money she had received from the tooth fairy, pocket money from doing chores in her home and Chinese New Year money she had been gifted to Hopeful Hearts. Well done, Mia!

Alice - Year 4

Alice has won Socially Ambitious award because she has chosen to practice her swimming skills to dive off a diving board well instead of choosing to play in the pool. Alice is a member of the BSNJ Foxes and she has shown an excellent commitment to the team through her perseverance to learning to master diving correctly off a diving board. Well done, Alice!

We can’t wait to share even more of your child’s special achievements with you in the Summer Term!
