It has been another great week in school for students, staff and parents. It was a real pleasure for me to meet with a number of Secondary parents during Tuesday’s forum. I welcomed the opportunity to share my ideas and aspirations for our school, but also felt I had a greater understanding of the wider context that makes the ‘Compass Tartan’ bright and colourful. Their insight and feedback was considered and very supportive. I am very grateful to our parents for all your input and continued support and you are always very welcome because your support is crucial to our success.
As we are heading into the last week before school closes on Thursday, 26 January, you would be mistaken if you think this will be a quiet week for them. Year 10 will be issued their new iPads as part of our growing GCSE examination programme. Now in its second year, this provision brings huge value to the quality of learning that our student’s receive as they work toward achieving examination success. This investment in their future will hopefully motivate them to achieve the highest standards.
To continue our technical theme, we are extremely excited to be launching our new and innovative, ‘Share My Homework’ programme with all students from Year 7 to 11. This online programme allows every teacher to set and monitor homework through uploading the specific tasks, and associated documentation, for the students to access at home via a smartphone, online device or computer. The real beauty of this system is how you as a parent, can also access your childs homework. By downloading the free app, you can easily monitor your childs homework, receive notifications when it has been set, when it has been completed and (if marked online) the teacher grade awarded. If you have more than one child in Secondary, the system will automatically link your children and display their individual homework requirements. Our Secondary teachers have received training this week and there is a real buzz about how we are going to maximise the potential of homework which supports the great learning that already takes place in school. More information will be coming sent home with your child as we work through a ‘soft launch’ next week with selected groups before hitting the ground running for all students, when school opens again on Sunday, 5 February.
For our IB students, all lessons and homework can also be tracked using the Managebac platform. This system has been in place for some weeks now, and has become embedded in our daily practice. The students and parents who received access last week, have provided very positive feedback on Managebac.
As I mentioned at the start of this article, your feedback is valued and always welcomed. Please do share your thoughts on the new Show My Homework software or any aspect of how we use technology here at Compass International School.
