Gharaffa Headlines 26 January

  • Karen Wilson

Dear Parents,

We have had another exciting week at Compass, Gharaffa.

Our Year 6 children have thoroughly enjoyed their time at their eco-venture camp in Dubai. The children survived their trip through the mangroves and Monday’s storms in order to participate in a full range of activities such as building and attempting to sail a seaworthy vessel, kayaking and other daring activities.  Through teamwork and various activities, the children have learned to cooperate, communicate and reflect on their leadership skills and decision-making styles. Every child who had the opportunity to visit this camp will have learned something very important which will have enabled them in their personal growth. I’d like to say a big thank you to Mr. Higgins and the Year 6 team for leading this event.

Early Years 2 had a huge surprise this week as they were visited by a pirate, fresh from his ship which is moored at Madinat Khalifa.  Pirate Ben answered many questions about his life as a seafaring sailor and was able to give a wonderful insight into what it is really like to live, work and sleep at sea.  Thank you to Mrs. Sanders and the Early Years 2 team for organising this memorable learning experience.

Also, this week, our Year 3 children have been thrown into turmoil as their mean Headteacher informed them that she was cancelling all fun activities in school.  The children appeared thunderstruck as they were informed that sport, break times and smiling would be banned in school after half term (it is tempting).  As a result of this visit, the children wrote passionately about why these changes must not be implemented.  I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Year 3, please tell your child that Mr. Doyle and the Year 3 team were behind this brilliant prank.

Today, we begin our Half Term holiday. Following this break, we will be celebrating International Week when our children will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a variety of cultural experiences.  We look forward to seeing parents at our Thursday costume parade.

On behalf of all the wonderful staff at Compass, Gharaffa, I wish you all a very happy and relaxing half term holiday.

Kind regards,

Karen Wilson
