Hopefully, your child has returned home last week and mentioned that we have been conducting elections for our student leadership positions. Each tutor group has elected their representatives for the Student Council at the same time as our seven candidates were campaigning for votes to become our new Head Students.
All the votes have been cast, counted and results shared.
It was a pleasure to meet the new Student Council today and congratulate them on their successful appointment to this important group within school. They will be tasked with providing the energy and drive to increase student activities, support house events, review our digital safety policy as well as create our very first student constitution. It will be a very busy year for them but they are focussed and in good spirits as they received their certificates and celebratory donut today before the hard work begins at our first meeting on Tuesday. You can share in their success by looking at our school Facebook page.
To support the Student Council and act as the link between the student body and the school leadership, we need effective and motivated Head Students. I was extremely impressed with this years’ seven candidates as they agreed that we, CISD, would break away from traditional models of gender specific roles and allow our student body to choose two students leaders regardless of gender.
Therefore, after and extremely close vote, I have the privilege of announcing that Mohammed and Tommaso, both from our IB Diploma programme, have been elected as our new Head Students for this academic year. They represent the very best of our school having a unique blend of historical appreciation from a student that has been with us since Year 4 and the fresh perspective of one that joined us only four weeks ago. I am sure you would join me in wishing them luck as they work together to support the Student Council to ensure the student voice plays an important role in school development.
Well done to all students who took a risk and put themselves forward as a student leadership candidate – that takes courage and you should be applauded and proud of your commitment to positive school change.
School life can now settle into our normal and established routines and after four weeks, it is now a perfect time for us to invite our secondary parents to come and meet with your child’s tutor. This is not a formal parents evening, but an opportunity for you to make a connection with the person that is the first face your child sees every morning. You should have received an email invitation for this event last week, but as a reminder, Meet the Tutor will be held on Wednesday 27 October from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.
Enjoy the rest of your week and please look out for our learning updates via our Facebook page.
