As the Qatar sun begins to shine and the weather continues to improve, this week begun in a positive and wonderful way. The whole of Secondary School came together to enjoy our end of term Praise Assembly. This is an opportunity for both students and teachers to recognise those who are working beyond our expectations.
Mrs Anderson-Rice, our MC, guided us through the different awards within the individual year groups. We acknowledged our many students who have demonstrated high levels of effort and commitment towards their learning, as well as those who are achieving the highest levels of academic attainment.
Sunday was also the last time that we will be together as a whole school, as both Year 11 and Year 13 students begin their IGCSE and IB examinations after the Spring break. Year 13 will have their formal Graduation Ceremony on Sunday, 23 April at 11.30am followed by their Prom on Friday, 19 May after their final examination. On Thursday, 27 April our Year 11 students will also celebrate their time at school with a Prom. Both groups of students are having similar experiences, but are at very different stages of their educational journeys - we wish them all, the very best of luck.
So, as we come to the end of the term, it is good chance for us to take stock of what we have already achieved, recharge our batteries and begin to look forward to the remainder of this academic year. During Term 3, staff will encourage and support the Student Council in developing a guidance document on how students conduct themselves on-line when at home. Sadly, this has raised some serious concerns and unfortunate behaviours in school this term, and the students want to support each other on making better on-line choices. We will also look for parents support by raising awareness and sharing ideas on how you can monitor your child’s on-line communications and safety.
We will continue to raise expectations and be guided by our RESPECT Agenda. House Points will also be awarded to students who are hardworking, creative and contribute to whole school life. In the Praise Assembly, we revealed that North House (Red) are currently leading the school at the end of Term 2 – congratulations to North!
Whatever plans you have for the spring break, I hope you all have time to relax and share some family time together. We look forward to all students returning to school on Sunday, 23 April.
