Sunday 30 April - Thursday 4 May was national STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) week. CISD participated at full steam involving all students from Early Years to Year 6 in engineering focused activities. We started of the week with an experiment filled assembly led by Mr Porter and his bag of science tricks. We then went back to class to learn all about the projects we would be working on throughout the week. Some of our classes were lucky enough to get a visit from Engineering for Kids and they showed us many innovative initiatives such as making a celery piano and building worlds in Minecraft.
Children in Year 5 and 6 were given an MIT developed ‘Makey Makey’ kit to take part in our MIT challenge. The children embraced this developing all sorts of inventions using their kits. We had jump-on game controllers, photo booths, door counters and many more.
As well as lots of inventions we saw the students really showing off their creativity with sculptures and beautiful art work as we interpreted Seven Wonders of the World. There was even a model of the Coliseum made entirely from sugar cubes.
The week culminated in a whole-school showcase with parents visiting our classes to see all our amazing work that we had done during the week. We look forward to doing more STEAM activities during the term.
