Although the temperature is steadily rising, it’s still business as usual here at Compass.
The children were very much absorbed in their learning this week. In a Year 3 classroom I listened to part of a very interesting debate about Fairtrade with the children speaking in character about their feelings and why they felt their treatment was unjust. The children delivered very passionate, believable arguments which displayed their detailed knowledge of their recent learning.
In today’s assembly I spoke to the children about good deeds and who should benefit from good deeds. Following this, there was a thought-provoking discussion. Hopefully, the children will be able to share some of their thoughts with you at home. Also, in assembly, Miss Anna one of our EAL teachers presented Cambridge EAL certificates to our children. We are very proud of all the children who stood up today to receive their awards. Mr Lyon then presented certificates to accomplished sports children from Year 1 to Year 6, then announcing the overall sports person of the year. Once again, well done to all these children. We are now counting down to the presentation of our Housepoint cup. This will be presented to the team who have earned the most Housepoints this year. The question is, will it be North, South, East or West? The announcement will be made on the last day of term.
Parents, if you are leaving Doha and you have any reading books which could be donated to our library, we would be extremely grateful. We are always looking for ways to further enhance the library. The Friends of Compass also wrote to parents this week asking for donations for our wonderful security guards and maintenance staff. If you are able to donate anything, whether this is toiletries, a pack of sodas or other consumables we would really appreciate your gifts. Our team work relentlessly throughout the year in very high temperatures. It would be lovely if we could show our appreciation. Thank you in advance to all those who have already donated. The collection point will be located in the main entrance.
As usual we are looking for ways to further enhance our learning provision. Last week, I asked the children for their ideas with regard to After School Clubs and what they would like the school to offer. I have also sent a survey to all staff to see if there are any skills amongst our team which we could be utilising better. Parents will be invited to an ECA fair in September when you will have the opportunity to find out more about these clubs.
Have a lovely weekend.
