Dear Parents,

Happy New Year and welcome to the Spring Term at Compass International School, Rayyan. I hope you had a restful winter break and the children are ready to work hard and make progress this term.

Now that the cooler weather is here, the children will have more opportunities for outdoor play. During the winter break, we were able to erect additional shading outside Early Years 2 and Year 1B and plans are afoot to extend and improve our Early Years 1 outdoor play area. We will keep you informed of progress.

Parents are reminded that children should wear school uniform items only, including caps, at all times. There are sweaters and jackets available at the uniform shop for cooler weather and girls can wear tights to keep them warm (white or navy). Trainers can only be worn on PE days and black leather shoes should be worn on all other days as part of the school uniform.

We are delighted to welcome Ms Sophie Nowland to Early Years 2B. Ms. Nowland qualified in Australia and has since undertaken post graduate studies in EAL and Gifted Education. She has worked in a number of schools, including schools in Australia and Qatar, and has a wealth of experience to bring to our team in Rayyan.

Sadly, our Senior Guard, Evans, is moving on to a new position in Doha this week which is a good opportunity and promotion for him. We would like to thank him for the tremendous amount of effort he has put into keeping Rayyan campus safe and secure and for his expertise at controlling traffic flow around the campus. We will all miss his happy, smiling face and pleasant greetings in the morning. We wish him every success in his new role and best wishes for the future.

Following their success last term, we will be running a series of Parent Seminars this term to give parents an understanding of teaching and learning in school and how you can help your children at home. Details of these and events at school can be found on the Parent calendar which was sent out on Thursday. Key dates are:-

17th January: STEAM seminar, 7.30am - Ms Reid

22nd January: Early Years Reading Seminar, 7.30am-Mrs Harper

4th February: Creating Educational Games to Support Learning, 12.30pm-Mr Akhtar

21st February: Guided Reading Seminar, 12.30pm-Mr Anderton

7th March: Maths Workshop (multiplication and division), 12.30pm-Ms O Toole

21st March: Maths Workshop (Shape, volume and measurement), 12.30pm-Ms O Toole

We are very keen to have feedback on Parent Seminars, particularly any subjects you would like to hear about in the future and the seminar timings. Please let Mrs Harper know your thoughts on sarah.harper@nais.qa

Traffic in the area has become particularly heavy with the ongoing road works on Forousiya Street and the conversion of Equestrian Roundabout into a junction. With this in mind, I am pleased to announce that the school gates will now open at 6.30am, to allow parents enough time to get to work. A member of staff will be on duty to supervise children at that time. If you are dropping your child off early, please make sure they are wearing warm school uniform clothing and have an extra snack to last them through the day. We hope that our flexibility will assist parents throughout the year.

ECA’s begin this week, so please check your child’s schedule and ensure that you collect them at 2.30pm. Have a good week.

Kind regards,

Ann Djedid

Head of Campus.
