There was a great attendance for the Year 8 and 9 Parent Forum this week. There were many different discussions taking place, however, an overarching theme was how the parents could help support their child further and what our students learn throughout the year. Due to this feedback, we will be sharing on our website and via show my homework the yearly learning overviews. This will explain our marking policy in school and what the grades and numbers mean. The best way to see how your child is progressing is to look at their books. Not just at the tests, they are undertaking, but the continuous assessment and feedback they receive. Ultimately, are they developing and getting better. Please feedback to me on any improvements can be made on the booklets for next year.
Another answer to how you can support your children is through diet. Last week's newsletter was regarding emotional health and well-being. I wanted to talk about the physical aspect of this too. A healthy mind, in a healthy body, is the phrase I shall be used with the students in assembly next week. Children will always try their best to push boundaries regarding sweets they buy for themselves and bring in. However, as parents, we also should evaluate what they are bringing in for lunch. At the moment I see too many portions of cold French fries and will be working on educating the students that there are much healthier and tastier options out there.
