What an eventful week!
We should like to extend sincere thanks to our school community for their understanding of the situation that led to the closure of our schools on Sunday. We were subject to a set of exceptional circumstances, with flooding on many local roads and rain damage to some of our facilities in the school. For the safety of our students, we felt it necessary to close for the day.
Due to the flooding, our Primary Parent Workshop, centred on STEAM education and our partnership with MIT, had to be postponed – this will now take place after the half term break. Details of this and our other popular Primary Parent Workshops will be shared in the coming week.
To the delight and surprise of our students, the MK Primary Teaching Staff kicked off our animal-themed STEAM week in some style! Directed into the hall at the start of the school day students were amazed to see the whole Primary teaching staff appear dressed as animals – this was followed by some rather interesting dances to ‘Gangnam Style’ and ‘Baby Shark’. It is fair to say that the students left the hall completely enthused for two days of STEAM challenges.
These collaborative challenges included:
Designing and testing their own ‘spider webs’ – some of these were strong enough to hold students and teachers!
Inspired by armadillos and their armour, students created and tested their own contraptions whose job was to protect an egg.
Students created their own fly-vision binoculars to great (and slightly dizzying) effect.
Every child in Primary also created their own animal cards and we rounded off the week with a massive ‘last person standing’ top trumps game.
It was an absolute pleasure to see the students so inspired, excited and engaged in their learning. We even had students desperate to stay in breaktimes to complete activities or test out their own ideas – a sure sign of success.
Finally, I’d like to wish you a relaxing, restful and dry half term break. We look forward to welcoming you back to school on Sunday, November 4th.
