We celebrated Qatar National Day last week and enjoyed a fantastic assembly led by students of the school. They took us through a whistle-stop tour of Qatar's history, performed traditional dance and spoke about local culture and customs.
The students are preparing for Expeditions Week and the learning skills outside of the classroom that will bring. Year 7 will be orienteering in Al Khor Park, visiting local cultural centers like the M.I.A and Souq Waqif and enjoying a day of House and Leadership activities. Year 8 will be visiting Sheikh Faisal Museum, Urban Mapping the Corniche along with also sketching the Doha skyline from a Dhow boat. Year 9 will be completing an introduction to the Duke of Edinburgh International Award (D of E) with their first camp in the desert and a hike. This will be followed by visits to the Aspire Zone and carrying out fieldwork in the Purple Island mangroves. Year 10 will be preparing for and then completing their Bronze Adventurous Journey D of E Award. Year 12 is currently in Tanzania, and I hope you are enjoying the social media shares of this expedition.
Year 11 and 13 are realising the rigor and demands of a formal examination period. Students are rising to the challenges this require. Others are realising their errors, and the need to change performance before the final summer examination period. They will enjoy a celebratory brunch at the school on Thursday, before enjoying the rest of the holidays.
Enjoy the holidays, wherever you may be.
