Dear Parents,

Student Leadership at MK Primary

Student leadership is the cornerstone of any successful school community and I have been delighted with the efforts of our Primary Student leaders this week.

Improving the School Environment

Our student leader group, which consists of our Head Boy, Head Girl, House Captains and Class Representatives, have set themselves the challenge of improving the outside environment. This involved canvassing their classmates, drawing up a proposal and presenting their ideas to Dr Creissen and myself. Suitably impressed, we gave the students approval for a number of their ideas. The next stage involved meeting with our Site Manager, Ms Molenaar, and drawing up estimates and an action plan for our Finance team. I, along with the primary students, look forward to seeing these improvements take shape.

Year 1 and 2 Sports Day

Our student leaders played a pivotal role in last week’s Mile Post 1 Sports Day, supporting our teachers at each of the activity stations. Their clear explanations and positive encouragement ensured that all Year 1 and 2 students enjoyed participating in the Sports Day! Many thanks to our PE staff, class teachers, learning assistants and parents for their support throughout this event. Our Year 5 and 6 Sports Day takes place on Tuesday, 20 February between 8:00 am – 10:00 am.

Celebrating our learning in IPC

Year 2 celebrated their ‘Buildings’ IPC topic by creating famous buildings from Qatar and beyond, using recycled materials. It was great to see parents in class helping students build their wonderful models. Interested in seeing the completed designs? Please visit the school reception where they are proudly displayed.

We rounded the week off with an all singing and dancing assembly from our Year 4 students, who shared their learning from the ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasure’ IPC topic. The students took us on a fun-filled journey to Ancient Egypt and the time of Howard Carter. The assembly included sweets, gold, jokes and a mummy! Many thanks to the Year 4 team, students and parents for ensuring the assembly was a great success.

Spring Fete – Saturday, 21 April

Thank you to those of you who have contacted Mr McConnell and myself with regards to supporting the school’s Spring Fete on Saturday, 21 April. We can never have too many volunteers, so if you are interested in joining the organising committee, please do get in touch.

Have a wonderful week!

Jimmy Frawley, Head of Primary
