Welcome to Sports Week at Rayyan Campus.

There is a huge buzz around campus as the children compete to win House Points for their team. The winning house will be presented with a cup at assembly on Thursday and children who have been ambitious in their approach, going that extra mile to be successful or making a huge effort for their team, will be recognised and awarded with a certificate. House coloured T shirts are on sale at Reception, should you wish to purchase one. We are looking forward to watching the sports days and enjoying the atmosphere. Parents are welcome to join.

Please remember that Tuesday is National Sports Day and school will be closed.

Recently we held STEAM Week across school, with children using their Curiosity Cubes to create some fantastic and innovative designs and inventions. For the older children in school, this was a competition to see who could come up with the best original idea. I am delighted to announce that one of our students, Mohammed al Hussain, won the competition and will be travelling to MIT in Boston to take part in the annual Cambridge Science Fair and learn from the experts in a special Nord Anglia Education schools collaboration. This is a fantastic opportunity for him and a great achievement. Congratulations Mohammed!

Our Year 6 children are coming to the end of the primary school education and will go on to our Madinat Khalifa Campus Year 7 classes in September. In order to develop their skills, both academic and personal, they have been given an opportunity to participate in a three day Leadership Camp in Qatar. This is a residential trip, which takes learning outdoors and will include team building skills, water sports, orienteering, biking, camping and many more activities. We hope that all of our children will participate in this unique opportunity.

Last week we held a series of Parent Seminars, which were well attended. From mathematics games to Bilingual Education, parents got involved and supported their children’s education at Compass International School Doha. Thank you to Mr Akhtar and Ms Goffart for organising these. Our staff have a wealth of knowledge to share with you. We will shortly send out a survey to find out what parents would like to see in seminars and preferred timings. Your feedback is important.

Next week, on Monday 19th February, we will be holding the Term 2 Parent Teacher Consultations. Please make sure that you make an appointment with your child’s class and specialist teachers at a convenient time to discuss their progress and next steps.

On Thursday we held the first House Assembly of the term. The children gathered in their house teams to hear the weekly announcement from the House Captains. The winners were West house so it was definitely a great week for their House Captain, Mohammed Al Hussain.

Jessica Meyer, our Juilliard School teaching specialist, will be in school on Wednesday 21st February. Parents are invited to attend a workshop to accompany Year 5B in the Music Room from 7:30-8:30 am. There are 20 places available, so please contact Mrs Lerche if you would like to join.

Friends of Compass School are organising the next Movie Night, showing Paddington 2, on Thursday 22nd February. Tickets will be on sale this week and next and are limited to Compass Rayyan families only. There will be 200 on sale so watch out for the FCS representatives or send your request to the School Secretary.

The next FCS meeting will be on Wednesday 14th February at 1.30pm. All parents are welcome to join the group and get involved in Rayyan Campus activities.

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Kind regards,

Ann Djedid
