With only three weeks to go before the end of term, spring term is proving to be a busy and exciting time at Rayyan Campus.
We celebrated World Maths Day on Wednesday with a treasure hunt, mathematics quizzes, competitions and maths problem solving everywhere. The playground was full of children solving clues, measuring, making shapes and having a really good time. Ms O Toole led a Parent Seminar later that day to explain multiplication and division strategies. There will be another seminar, next Wednesday 21st March 12.30pm in the Rayyan Hall. Well done to the competition winners in each year group. They are:-
- Year 1 - Gautam Nair
- Year 2 - Nirvan Moonasar
- Year 3 - Ayesha Hashim
- Year 4 - Khalid Al Hussain
- Year 5 - Fladina Ghaisani
- Year 6 - Mohammed Al Hussain
On Wednesday we held the monthly ‘Drop in for Coffee’ time at Rayyan and an FCS meeting with parents. We have some great ideas and suggestions from the group and feedback is always listened to. The next event will be the Family Beach Day at the Al Sharq Village and Spa. Tickets will be on sale every day this week. Come along to join in the fun and enjoy the atmosphere.
The annual Nord Anglia Education Parent Survey link has been sent to you by email. Please complete the survey by the end of the month. It is available in a wide variety of languages for ease of access.
Thank you to the parents who have already completed reenrolment forms for the next academic year. We are delighted that you have chosen us to continue with your child’s education. On that note, places for next year are going to be very limited so please either complete the form as soon as possible or let us know your intentions, if you plan to move on. We currently have waiting lists in most year groups for next year so your assistance with this is appreciated.
For their Family and Friends IPC exit point, EY2A and EY2B were visited by Kelly, a volunteer from QAWS, Qatar Animal Welfare Society, an animal rescue centre. She brought a cat, rabbit and tortoise with her and explained how these animals should be cared for in order to keep them healthy. The children were lucky enough to be able to interact with these friendly, well behaved pets.
Kelly also visited our ‘Student Voice’ ECA and described the many different ways QAWS can help unwanted animals in Doha. The members of Student Voice felt that they wanted to help too and are now planning how they can achieve this. We will send further details on how you can help, before our School Spirit Day which will now be held on the last day of term.
Congratulations to Mrs Roman, our Year 1 teacher, for successfully passing her Masters Degree in Education and additional learning needs. I am sure she will put her hard work and learning to good use in her role at Compass International School.
International Week got off to a great start with the Olympic style Flag Parade. It always gives children and parents a great sense of pride to walk alongside their compatriots and represent their countries. This year, one of our parents has developed an APP which will allow the children to recognise and sign their name on their country’s flag (online) and we hope to be able to show this later in the week.
International Mindedness underpins our curriculum through the International learning Goals in the IPC. Having respect for oneself and others is a key learning outcome we teach to develop and enhance cultural understanding and share traditions and values. We look forward to seeing parents in class, sharing international learning and of course, joining us for the buffet and performance on Thursday. Once again, it promises to be a fantastic week.
Finally, our students and their families have been given an opportunity to attend the Qatar Moto Grand Prix 2018 at Losail Circuit. Details are in a separate letter-what a great opportunity to watch some world class racing and soak up the atmosphere. Please contact the School Secretary for details.
