Compass Rayyan ended the term with a spectacular Talent Show, which showcased our ambitious learners’ many talents. School Spirit Day is a wonderful celebration of our close knit campus, relationships between students and their peers and students and staff.
The day began with the arrival of students and staff wearing some very crazy hairstyles. Well done to parents for their creativity and effort. We kicked off the celebration with Mr Akhtar leading a Wake Up Shake Up session in the school hall, before breaking into house teams to award certificates and join together for a house chant.
Mr Metcalf announced the names of the House Logo competition and introduced our new House superheroes.
We look forward to using them in our House meetings and competitions next term. The much anticipated cup for most house points went to …. North! Congratulations to the winning team.
Year 3 organised a Chocolate Bake off, supported by Friends of Compass School, as the Exit Point to their IPC 'Chocolate' unit. The children were so enthusiastic as they prepared their goods, presented their sales pitch and learned some valuable lessons about handling money. Every child in school visited the classes to taste the goodies and it was a lovely addition to School Spirit day.
The Talent Show involved so many children, who were willing to have a go and entertain the audience. From dancing, singing, magic and gymnastics to music and even reciting the periodic table, there was plenty of variety and an array of skills and talent on show. What was impressive, was how much the children have grown in confidence over the year and our growth mindset philosophy was very apparent.
This week, we have received some very encouraging news about the Bilingual Programme in school.
Ms Amandine led a group of children to a competition entitled, ‘Dit Mois, Dix Mots’. All the children in the programme were involved in the preparation of art work for the competition, with the final being held at Lycee Voltaire. Our children won ‘Grand Prix‘ from the jury which was the First Place prize. The certificate was presented to the children by the French Ambassador to The State of Qatar.
Some of the children in school, who are in the Bilingual Programme, attend a preparation class for the DELF Prim examination. This is an examination for French as an additional language learners, which is set by the Ministry of Education in France. The results from the examination arrived on Thursday and I am delighted to announce that we had a 100% pass rate, with 85% of the children scoring above 80% in the examination. Quite an achievement!
The achievements will be celebrated at a special assembly on Thursday, 12 April. Thank you to Ms Amandine and the team for giving our children such great opportunities.
Year 6 attended the Blue Pearl Adventure Camp last week to take part in a 3 day residential visit which tested their skills, communication and resilience. The children joined their peers from Madinat Khalifa and Gharaffa Campuses to participate in a wide range of team and individual activities. They had a fantastic time and learned so many life skills in the process. You can see some photographs of the activities on our Facebook page here.
From Sunday, 1 April, there will be further roadworks in the school area. Furousiya Street will be operating two lanes only so please set off for school early. A local news article with the details can be found here.
Thank you parents, for the enormous amount of support you have given this term. The teachers and support team members have worked very hard to give children the opportunity to shine and we cannot do that without your help.
Have a wonderful holiday and time with your family. I hope to welcome the children back to school, on Sunday, 8 April, refreshed and ready to learn. Please note that ECAs will begin on the first day of term.
