Last week, we welcomed Helen O’Donoghue, a member of the International Primary Curriculum accreditation team, to the school. Helen visited every classroom and met with groups of students, parents and teachers to talk about the IPC learning taking place at CISD MK. The visit went incredibly well and Helen commented on the welcoming feel of the school community as well as the willingness of our students (and parents) to talk about their learning with such enthusiasm. I will keep you updated on our accreditation journey and look forward to more parents being involved in the next visit.
On Sunday morning, our students led a wonderful and informative assembly where they shared the meaning of Ramadan and what it means to them and their families. As always, the students spoke, acted, danced and sang with great confidence. Well done to our students and a big thank you to our Arabic team, Mrs Enaam, Mrs Sahar and Ms Somaia for their hard work preparing the assembly.
We want all students of Compass International School Doha to learn about this special month and to take advantage of the aspects of self-improvement that are associated with it. To enable the Muslim students to take full part in fasting and the other spiritual experiences, we have set out some special activities during Ramadan:
- Muslim students will observe Zohar prayers together at 11.20am each day in the internal courtyard. Parents and student volunteers who would like to lead the prayers, or make the call to prayer, are more than welcome. Please contact the school if you would like to do so.
- We will provide opportunities for spiritual activities such as Islamic learning circles and Qur’an recitation at break times.
Our Primary Swim teams competed against other Doha schools in a series of QPPSSA swimming competitions over the last month. I’m delighted to report that each of our Y1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6 teams achieved 3rd place in each competition. These fantastic results are a testament to the commitment and resilience demonstrated by our students and the time and effort our PE team have put into preparing our students.
In other water-based sporting activities, I’d like to congratulate the Compass International School Sailing Team who achieved second place at the Inter School Sailing Regatta! The team consisted of students from MK and Rayyan. Well done to Bodhi (5MB) and his teammates for such a fantastic result!
Have a great week and Ramadan Kareem.
