Thank you to those of you who attended the International Primary Curriculum workshop on Wednesday, led by Mr Anderton. I hope we answered your questions and gave insight into the structure of the curriculum and its learning philosophy.
This week we have a Pre Accreditation visit for the International Primary Curriculum to assess our readiness for full accreditation. This is a way of quality assuring our teaching and learning and part of a yearlong process to ensure that our curriculum offer incorporates the key academic, personal and international goals to a high level.
Ms Helen O Donoghue, from IPC will be at Rayyan campus on Monday 7th May to review practice and speak to children, parents and staff. She is available at 1.00pm if you would like to speak to her about your experience of the IPC at Rayyan Campus.
On Thursday, Year 4A presented a fantastic assembly about our planet and conservation. All the more so because they wrote it themselves. They sang, acted and danced beautifully whilst getting a very important message across; we need to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. Thank you to Ms Lord and Year 4A for presenting their thoughts so eloquently.
This linked in very well with our new Global campus project, led by Mr Metcalf, entitled ‘Grow to Grow’. Students have been challenged to grow their own plants in reused water bottles and we plan to construct a recycled greenhouse, made of used water bottles and wood. Please save your 1.5l bottles and send them in for this project. There will be lots of planting, nurturing and projects around the theme and we look forward to seeing the results later in the term.
Last week our FCS parents held a very successful second hand book fair in school which gave adults and children a chance to buy a bargain read. Thank you to the group for organising the event. The students in school are researching outdoor play options and we plan to put the proceeds towards building an exciting new playground project over the summer.
This week we have some important meetings in school for Early Years parents. The first is a Transition Meeting, where we will discuss the important changes in moving from Early Years to the more formal Year 1 classroom expectations. Parents will be informed of our approach and expectations and have a chance to ask questions about this important phase in their child’s development. This meeting will take place on Monday, at 7.30am, in the hall.
The second meeting is for Early Years parents who are new to Compass or who want to find out more about learning in early years. It will take place on Wednesday at 12.30pm. On both days there will be a pop up uniform shop on campus. Parents are welcome to come along to buy uniform for next year at a discounted price.
On Thursday, we will be holding a special assembly, led by year 5B, about Ramadan traditions. Our focus is International Mindedness and understanding our home/host country culture. All parents are welcome to attend the assembly at 7.30am, in the school hall.
On Wednesday evening, Year 6 will be holding a celebration party to mark the end of the primary phase education as they prepare to move on to the very exciting new challenge of life in secondary school, at our Madinat Khalifa Campus. The children are invited to the Al Sharq Village and Spa to celebrate together and I am sure it will be a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Enjoy the rest of the week.
