Dear Parents,

I hope you enjoyed the ‘Welcome’ meetings this week and are now familiar with classroom routines and expectations. I am very encouraged by the positive feedback I have been given by parents on the smooth start to the year and how happy their children are in class. We have a fantastic team of teachers and assistants and I am confident that they will ensure that your child has a positive, learning focused and enjoyable time at school.

Our new Secretary, Alexis Lewis, has been working hard to ensure that the children have signed up for an ECA of their choice and managed to add places and new activities to cut waiting lists. There is a good range on offer, for all year groups, spread throughout the week. As always,  some ECA’s were full within minutes, however there are still some places available in both school run and external ECA’s. Please login to the system to see what is available. If you would like to deselect an ECA, please contact Alexis to do so. ECA’s run from the 9th September to 6th December.

On Wednesday we had the first ‘Drop in for Coffee ‘of the year. It was very well attended and lovely to meet parents informally to share thoughts and information. The next coffee morning will be on 3rd October-I look forward to seeing you there.

The focus for assembly last week was ‘Student Voice’ and to present the chosen Student Council, Eco warriors, House Captains, Prefects and Head Boy and Girl with their caps and badges. It was exciting and encouraging to see how many children applied for the roles and how competitive the posts of responsibility are. The proud children and parents received their awards and took an oath of responsibility to work as a team to improve our campus.

Well done to the first certificate winners of the year who were presented with an award for good communication, one of our IPC Personal Goals. The children were chosen for their ability to communicate with others, share their thoughts effectively and always being willing to participate in class discussions.

On Thursday 13th, Uniform Mart will have a pop up shop at Rayyan Campus. All uniform items will be on sale upstairs in the main building. If you need uniform before the pop up shop arrives, please visit the store in Gharaffa.

Punctuality is an important skill to teach children and being on time for school means that your child has a good start to the day. Please arrive in school by 7.15am so that you child can line up with their class and be greeted by the teacher. Missing time every day impacts on learning and slows progress so it is important that children do not miss valuable learning. This applies to the end of the day routine as well. Children are not allowed to leave class before 1.20pm (Early Years) or 1.30pm (Years 1-6) without prior permission for an exceptional reason, such as a medical appointment.

On Wednesday, we have a Parent Seminar about the Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History Programme at Rayyan. Ms Enaam will present to parents at 7.30am in the Rayyan Hall and introduce the new Arabic Programme.

The first Friends of Compass School (FCS) meeting takes place on Wednesday at 1.30pm in Mrs Djedid’s office. Please come along if you would like to be part of this dynamic group who work with the school to create social opportunities for parents and students and share their thoughts and ideas on improvement.

We look forward to working with you for the children’s benefit.

Kind regards,

Ann Djedid
