Dear Parents,
Thank you to all the parents who completed the NAE Parent Engagement Survey. Good news! The Parent Survey will now remain live until Thursday, 31 January 2019 and we ask if you have not completed that you please do so. We look forward to sharing your views and reviewing the results to assist with the future development of the school.
The Compass Beach Clean-up last week was a huge success and hopefully the start of many such initiatives. Thank you to Mr Coughlan, parents and students who attended and helped to make a difference to the environment.
Our series of Parent Seminars got off to a great start this term with the mathematics seminar presented by Mrs O’ Neill, our Maths Leader. She focused on mental agility in mathematics and the progression from using practical materials to abstract calculation. If you were unable to attend and would like a copy of the presentation, please contact the School Secretary, at info.ry@nais.qa, who will send it to you.
There are two further seminars taking place this month; Bilingual Education on Monday, 28 January at 7.30 am and the International Primary Curriculum on Tuesday, 29 January at 7.30 am. Please see the Spring Term calendar for details of forthcoming events.

On Thursday, Year 5/6C proudly showcased their ‘Exit Point’ on the IPC theme ‘Extreme Survivors.’ During the assembly, they demonstrated their knowledge skills and understanding through a ‘TV documentary’ about different environments around the world. These were the Desert Survival, Polar Expedition, Marine Investigators, Mountain Rangers and the Jungle Teams. This presentation of their learning demonstrated how they had investigated each environment and learnt how people, animals and plants have adapted to the varying conditions around the world. They concluded the assembly by performing a rap which included key facts about these different environments.
Feeling a little sluggish in the morning? Don’t like getting up when it’s dark? Our Head of PE, Ms Creegan, has a plan to reenergise you and brighten your day. Every Monday she will lead a ‘Wake up, Shake up ‘for students and parents in the hall. So be there at 7.00am, ready to join in the fun and have an exciting start to the day.
On Tuesday morning, parents are invited to attend the ‘Class in Action' day to see first-hand how your children learn and participate in a lesson. You are welcome to come along for a short time or to stay until 9.30am; and parents with two or more children may visit all classes. We look forward to seeing you.
This week we have the Juilliard Dance Specialist, Joshua Palmer, visiting on Wednesday, 23 January. Joshua will lead and observe Juilliard dance lessons with Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5/6 girls to share his professional expertise and demonstrate dance to Year 5 boys. Our PE teachers will have planning discussions and feedback on elements of the dance curriculum to support them with implementation.

We will be holding a uniform Pop Up Shop on Tuesday, 22 January from 7.30am-2.30pm in the school hall. Please take the opportunity to buy uniform for the colder weather such as sweaters, PE trousers and warm tights for girls. Children may wear a navy blue fleece or warm jacket when it is cold or raining. Please do not send your child to school in non-uniform items.

Friends of Compass School (FCS), our parent group, held their first meeting of the year on Sunday. Look out for their upcoming newsletter with events for this term. All parents are welcome. If you have ideas to share, would like to help out in school or in FCS events, please contact FCS on FCS.ry@nais.qa
We look forward to seeing you in school on Tuesday.
Kind regards,
Ann Djedid
