Reflecting back on last week, I’d like to begin by thanking our wonderful Year 1B team who shared their International Primary Curriculum (IPC) unit, Celebrations, with the whole school. The school was transfixed as the children shared some of their artwork, told us about their talents and we even found out that many of our children are bilingual. The children were delighted to share some of their wonderful traditions. Once again, we were reminded that although we come from different parts of the world and are different in so many ways, deep down we are all the same. It was a joy to see the children celebrating their diversity; delivering their lines in a proud, confident manner. Well done, to the Year 1B team of children and also Ms Sweeney and Ms Kim. What a wonderful way to end the half term!
On Thursday, we announced the winners of this term’s popcorn party. The party is awarded to the students with the best attendance and punctuality. Year 5A were the winners as their attendance and punctuality is exceptionally good. I would like to thank all children in the school who continually arrive on time. Well done to each and every one of you.
Also last week, our Year 2 children visited the Sharq Village hotel as a grand finale to their IPC learning, ‘Hooray, Let’s go on Holiday’. The children had a fantastic time, arriving home with exciting memories of their day at the hotel. On Thursday, Year 1 and Year 5 held their IPC exit points. Both events gave students the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of their recent IPC units of study. We hope the children enjoyed the day.
Thank you to all parents who attended last week’s Parent Teacher Consultations. It was wonderful to see so many familiar and unfamiliar faces. If you were unable to attend the consultation, please ensure that you make an appointment immediately after the half term break. It is essential that all parents meet with teachers. Please ensure that you keep in regular contact with the school as it is important that we work in partnership with all our parents.
I’m sure you’ll agree that the first half term was packed with so many learning opportunities, not only for the children but also our parents. We hope our parents have been happy with the quality of education which we offer here at Compass Gharaffa. Forthcoming dates for your diary:

I would like to conclude this newsletter by thanking the amazing team of staff at the Gharaffa campus. I hope you agree that the school offers a superb education for each child. That is down to the dedication, professionalism and energy of every single member of staff in the school. I feel incredibly proud to lead such an amazing team of people.
I would also like to thank our wonderful FCS team and in particular Balsam Al Maari (Chairperson) and Nicky Levey (Vice Chairperson). Both ladies continue to be a great support to the school, are wonderful leaders and are very much part of our team. I would also like to thank the team of parents who are now supporting the school as we prepare for our International Breakfast. Thank you also to our amazing Class Representatives for your continuous support and positivity. I mustn’t forget to mention all the parents who we rarely see due to work commitments, thank you for asking the right questions and for supporting the school where possible.
Have a wonderful half term break. I look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, 27 October.
Head of Campus, Gharaffa
