The day began with a special National Day assembly which was organised by our dedicated Arabic department, led by Mrs Enaam. Our children showcased their Arabic dance techniques in a colourful performance which was cleverly linked by narrative explanations from our two narrators, one speaking in Arabic the other translating into English. Following this, parents and children shared an Arabic breakfast as Qatari sword dancers performed to the hypnotic beating of drums. The school playing field held interesting artefacts from one of our local museums; as ladies baked bread and other crafts were being showcased. There were so many opportunities to find out more about the Qatari culture. In class, children learned about the nation of Qatar as they engaged in a wide range of activities. Thank you to our wonderful school community for helping us make the day such a fantastic success, to our talented children and teaching staff. Congratulations once again to Qatar.
Last Tuesday, our Maintenance and Security teams enjoyed a banquet of food and gifts. At this time of year we like to thank our teams for all they do to support the school. We have a fantastic team who are always available to support us, keeping us safe and ensuring the school is kept clean. I would like to thank all parents and staff who donated gifts for the teams. I would also like to thank our Gharaffa staff team who prepared and provided food for this event.
On Monday, the school hosted our last assembly of 2019. Music was the theme of the assembly. Our talented musicians showcased their skills on a range of musical instruments. All children played confidently and evidently enjoyed the opportunity to share their achievements with the whole school. Well done to all the children who took part and thank you to Mr Sanderson for preparing the children for the event.
There were a few tears as we said goodbye to some of our children. We wish them all the best for the future and will miss them dearly at the school.
Well done to all our children who took part in last week’s sporting events. Some children enjoyed a netball festival on Monday whilst other sporting students participated in a Dodgeball event on Wednesday. We hope the children benefitted from this opportunity to compete. Thank you once again to our PE staff for organising and training the children.
Also last week, our Early Years 2 children visited Carluccio’s as they became chefs for one day. All our children seemed to thoroughly enjoy the day. Year 6 also experienced a day out at the National Museum. The trip was a valuable learning experience for the children.
Reports were sent out on Thursday. We hope you had the opportunity to share the information from this term’s report with your child. If you do have any concerns, please contact your child’s class teacher who will meet with you in the New Year.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our families for working in close partnership with the school. I would particularly like to thank our Friends of Compass School team and all our Class Representatives who are fantastic ambassadors for our school and never fail to support us. We look forward to working closely with our community once again in the New Year.
Finally, a big thank you to the Gharaffa staff team. The team here works relentlessly; striving to ensure that they deliver a quality first class education which they do at all times with energy and positivity. We truly value the professionalism and commitment of all our teams.
I wish all our Gharaffa community a very happy Qatar National day and a wonderful holiday.
