Being born not too far from where William Shakespeare scribed some of his best works, it was inevitable that I would one day use his words. This newsletter suits that moment!

Thursday’s assembly was a time of gratitude for the teachers at Compass Rayyan, all from the children. Over the last two weeks, our active Student Voice body have been writing a special assembly to pass on their thanks to the people who inspire and lead them and their peers every day. Through creating the categories, to selecting the winners, the Student Council made sure that all teachers felt the gratitude of the school. Our Eco Warriors contributed bespoke, recycled, trophies as they were conscious of the fact that paper certificates would not help in our drive for sustainability. I wish to extend my thanks and pride in this group of pupils for making the staff a happy bunch of people.

Madame Amandine was also able to award prizes on Thursday. With over thirty entries, this year’s STEAM competition was incredibly successful. The range and quality of the photos received, as well as the thought processes behind them, demonstrated the exceptional talent that we have in school. In what was not an easy decision, the entries were whittled down to a shortlist before two winners were found. Congratulations to Erick from Year 6 who has won the opportunity to visit the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for a STEAM festival, and to Roma in Year 3 who won an instant camera.

STEAM will be our focus on Wednesday and Thursday as the children, and teachers, look to use photography to capture some of science’s wonders. Last Monday, the staff enjoyed their meeting time learning of different tricks that can be played with perspective. These, and others, will be demonstrated to all children over the week. Our showcase, on Thursday afternoon, will be a wonderful opportunity for you to see how effective and ambitious we have been.

Last week, our youngest children went on their first trip of the year, taking in the sea and sand at the Intercontinental Hotel to consolidate learning from their IPC unit. I am delighted with feedback from school and hotel staff about the behaviour and enthusiasm of our children and, importantly, the children had wonderful fun too!

Today, our Years 5 and 6 girls head to Compass Themaid for a netball tournament, and on Tuesday our swim squad start the competition season at Compass Madinat Khalifa; we wish the best of luck to all competitors.

On Thursday, you will receive an interim report for your child. This outlines their progress, projected attainment for the end of the academic year, and provides a snapshot of their school life. Should you be traveling before Thursday, please let us know and Mrs Lewis will add you to the mailing list to receive the report by email at the same time as the other parents.

A reminder that we celebrate Qatar National Day on Sunday, 15 December and children are able to wear Qatari national dress or the national colours of maroon and white.

An advance notice that the week beginning 2nd February is our International Week and as such, your child will be asked, if possible, to dress in clothing representative of their nationality (or nationalities).
