Dear Parents,

It was lovely to see so many parents at our Year 1/2B assembly on Thursday. The children have made so much progress in learning French and English and their use of both languages was impressive. They sang beautifully and presented a role play on “toys’ related to their IPC learning. The French speakers were able to express themselves in English and the English speakers in French. The students were confident and expressed themselves clearly during the mini production where the toys from the IPC unit “The Magic Toymaker” for Year 2 found themselves in a garden based on the unit “ Plants and Insects” for Year 1. Our students explained everything about the life cycle of a butterfly, the flowers parts, the insect body parts, pushing, pulling and the proprieties of material. They also used the Makaton language to learn and sing the “Toy story” song in French. They definitely showed the Personal Goals of enquiry, resilience and great cooperation.

Three of our students have made excellent progress in learning English and attended classes to study the language with the Cambridge Examinations Board. They were awarded the Cambridge Assessment in English Certificates at assembly. Congratulations to Yanis Lazib, Aly El Shazly and Lucas Zimbello for achieving Merit level in Reading and Writing, Listening and Speaking. A great achievement.

Movie night was a huge success with students having a choice of movie and different venues this time round. The children watched Coco or Despicable Me 3 with their friends and enjoyed their popcorn. Thank you to FCS, Rayyan staff and parents for supporting the event.

FCS will be selling tickets for the very popular Family Beach Day at the Al Sharq Village this week. This includes games, access to the beach and pool and a buffet lunch. This is always a fantastic event so get your tickets soon.

Year 5 had a tremendous time on their ‘Desert Camp’ last week and thoroughly enjoyed the games, camping and being with their friends. Their cooperation and resilience was put to the test as for some, it was the first time they had been away from home. Many new friendships were formed and the team games and talent show were enjoyed by all. They returned tired but happy, ready for some warm pizza and a movie. Thank you to Mrs Mannings, Ms Rania, Mr Akhtar and Ms Kate for giving our students this opportunity.

On Monday Compass Rayyan Year 6 basketball team competed in the annual QPPSSA competition. After some excellent performances in the group stage the team narrowly missed out on a place in the final. The team shown great resilience and team work which resulted in a 4th place finish. Well done boys!

We are looking forward to seeing you in school for our annual International Week. This is one of the highlights of the calendar and a great chance to join in our international learning and sharing of cultures and traditions.

Kind regards,

Ann Djedid
