Dear Parents,

Sports in Qatar got off to an amazing start this week with the Qatar Football Team’s victory in the Asian Cup. Congratulations to the Qatari Team - an impressive achievement!

What a fantastic week of sport we have had at Rayyan campus. Every child and member of staff was involved and we even got parents to participate in the Staff v Parents Tug of War. Our parents are definitely fit and competitive. They led an impressive, tactical team who put all their strength into it, beating the staff team 3-0! Well done to all those involved; the staff team are now in training for the next round.

Rayyan started their sports week on Plan B, with the Early Years sports day taking place indoors due to the rain. However, this did not deter their enthusiasm or enjoyment as the children carried on through the 12 stations, showing their newly learnt skills through a variety of activities. Our older students took on a leadership role to assist the younger children with sports day and this was a pleasure to watch. Some students have only started school this year, and their response to sports day was immense, with some saying “This is the best day ever!” We are certainly glad they enjoyed it.

Monday saw Year 5 and 6 complete a complex course of various skills, from obstacle courses to basketball dribble to target throwing and many more. This was the first day of the house points. Special mention to North Team 1, who with only 3 people in their group, came out on top of the North teams with a total of 509 points. East Team 2 smashed many records gaining overall victory in East with a total of 585 points. But it was South 2 who won the overall team score with a huge total of 707 points. South were victorious over the 4 house teams with a combined score of 1831 points. With South finishing on top of the leader board, they were looking promising coming into the second day.

Tuesday saw the fantastic Year 1 and 2 ready to gain as many points as they possibly could for their houses. Year 5 and 6 stepped up their game and led the teams around the stations, encouraging and leading their house teams throughout the day. West won today with a total of 2043.

Wednesday was our final day with the Year 3 and 4 making their way through the complex course. West were victorious again with a combined score of 1805. An amazing end to the week with many scores to be counted up!

Thursday was our sports day assembly which included children getting certificates for outstanding performance, effort, most improved, being inspirational and sportsmanship.  Final points for the week were North: 5048, South: 5373, East: 5316 and West: 5311; making South the champions. It is the second year in a row that they lifted the House Cup. Well Done South!

Thank you to both staff and parents who got involved in the tug of war during assembly. It was an amazing effort from the parents who absolutely smashed the teachers 3 times in a row!! They looked like professional athletes. A lovely way to end our Sports week here at Rayyan, one to be remembered.

QPPSSA Girls Football Tournaments

The U10 and U11 girl’s football teams had their QPPSSA football tournaments at Aspire Park recently. The U11 team had a tough group but only conceded 2 goals in their entire group stage. This left them in the 9th and 10th play-off. In the play-off they scored a great goal to gain the victory and receive an overall position of 9th place.

The U10 team got off to a strong start, scoring and winning every game. In the group stage final game, they lost by 1 goal and came second overall. This granted them a semi-final position. The semi- final against DESS was fought hard with both teams scoring and defending throughout the full game. DESS secured the victory with a last minute goal. The girls then played for a 3rd and 4th position, narrowly being defeated again in the final minute to gain an overall 4th place.

Both teams worked extremely hard throughout the day and definitely enjoyed the experience. Well done to all involved and a special mention to Future Football coach Jack who assisted on the day.

U11 Team: Jood Hamad, Haya Mousa, Zaira Diaz Munoz, Fladina Ghaisani, Kimberley Whitelaw, Angie Khurram, Nada Al Rauili
