Thursday was an amazing end to a very busy term as students arrived at school with crazy hair and cheered on the students and staff at the annual sports competition. The air was electric as students fought to steal the trophy from determined, highly competitive staff. Unfortunately for the students, the staff once again won the battle for the trophy.
Also last week, we had numerous sports events which included the Year 5 girls’ basketball competition and the Year 1 and Year 2 Swimming gala. Year 5 played exceptionally well, coming in 4th place whilst our Year 1 and Year 2 students came 3rd overall, bringing home a total of 27 medals. On Wednesday, students from Compass Madinat Khalifa, Rayyan and Gharaffa congregated at the Madinat Khalifa poolside for our very first Compass Inter-house swimming gala. The students from the 3 schools displayed stamina and determination with the Gharaffa students winning the event. Well done to all the students and an even greater well done to our Gharaffa swimming team for bringing home the trophy.
The children very much enjoyed Global Money week when the whole school focussed on the purpose of money and in particular the importance of saving. On Sunday we had visitors from QNB who led presentations in Year 3 to Year 6. The children evidently enjoyed the week and gained a good insight into the world of money. Thank you to our visitors for supporting the week and helping to bring our learning to life.
On Tuesday, the Year 2 students hopped on the Doha Bus for their annual trip to various locations in Doha. Luckily, the weather held out and the children had a fantastic day, arriving back at school exhausted but with many stories about their adventure. Year 6 also visited Bounce last week which is the biggest trampoline park in Doha. We hope all our children have enjoyed this term’s trips and activities.
4A hosted Thursday’s assembly, sharing and celebrating this term’s IPC knowledge, skills and understanding. The theme for the assembly was Land, Sea and Sky. Children dressed as creatures delivered interesting facts from their learning. It was wonderful to see how well the children were able to express themselves and share their learning in a fun, memorable manner. Well done to Mr Marchment and the 4A students and staff.
We hope that all our families are enjoying their holiday. Please remember that the new term starts on Sunday, 14 April. Children are expected to be back in school on the first day as we will be preparing for the Year 1 to Year 6 annual NFER tests which will take place the following week. Could I please remind all parents that the school start time is 7.15am and any lateness will disrupt the learning of other children in the classroom. Thank you to all parents who always support the school in this matter.
I’d like to end this newsletter by thanking our parents for their continued support, our wonderful Friends of Compass School (FCS) team and all of our talented children. My greatest thanks as ever must be passed on to a truly dedicated Gharaffa staff team who are always happy to go that extra mile.
Have a wonderful holiday.
